Problem and Proposed Solution

From week 1 the problem under investigation was obesity. Obesity is a serious healthcare problem that is associated with reduced quality of life and poorer mental health conditions. Obesity is also associated with an increase in the number of complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart diseases, stroke and other types of cancers (Cipriani et al., 2016).

There are different risk factors of obesity including overeating, overconsumption of junk foods, reduced physical activities, as well as genetic inheritance (Werneck et al., 2018). The main problem is the increasing cases of obesity among the population. The proposed solution to the health problem include educational programs and behavioral change among the population. Educational and behavioral change interventions are essential in the management of obesity.

Problem Statement and Research Purpose

Obesity has both mental and physical health complications for people of all ages. The complications associated with obesity range from medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, as well as pulmonary problems. Also, obesity is associated with the reduced self-esteem, social isolation, as well as depression. Providing solution to the increasing cases of obesity is therefore essential in ensuring a healthy population.

Research Purpose

The purpose of the research is to analyze the best interventions that are essential in the management of obesity. Some of the best interventions that the research is based on include educational approaches and behavioral change.

Research Questions

  • . What are some of the diseases and complications associated with obesity
  • What are some of the risk factors to obesity?
  • What are some of the mental and physical issues associated with obesity?
  • What are some of the best interventions that can be applied to reduce the cases of obesity?

PICOT Question

For individuals suffering from obesity (P), can lifestyle changes (I) compared to medical interventions (C) help to reduce the complications associated with obesity (O) in six months (T)?

Patient, Population or Problem

The patient population under consideration involves individuals between the age of 18 and 70 years. The population will involve people who are either overweight or obese. Also, the population will involve individuals who are at risk of obesity. The condition or disease under consideration is obesity.

The disease often lead to deterioration in mental health, it also lead to the growth of different health complications such as high blood pressure, hypertension, diabetes and the related conditions. With the increase in the unhealthy living behaviors, more people are exposed to obesity.

Patients involved in the research process will be observed to examine whether the interventions applied can reduce the conditions associated with obesity. The alternative to the interventions (educational and behavioral change) is the treatment process using the drug, phentermine-topiramate (Qsymia).

The relevant outcome associated with the interventions and medications above include reduction in the body weight which will in turn reduce the occurrences of the complexities associated with the obesity.
